             Dear Family Member,

We are beginning a thematic unit on identity and families. We will be
reading, “What Kind of Dog Am I?” about Posha, the Rescued Dog, and how

she discovers her identity and her “furever family.” To make this unit more

meaningful, I would appreciate your help. Before we begin the unit, could you
help your child complete some of the activities that call for family information.

Please share as much as you can with your child.
We are sending home two family activities to complete together. Also, to
enrich your child’s learning experience, please do some or all the following

Share family photo albums and videos with your child, identifying
family members. Discuss your family history.

Tell your child stories about your family when you were young.

Help your child write letters to send to members of your

                       extended family.

Take your child to the library. Help him or her select a family
storybook. Read it together and discuss your favorite parts.

Celebrate your family by preparing a special meal that
includes favorite food. Let your child assist in preparing the

food, setting the table, etc. Talk about the origins of the

                       dishes-Grandma Joan’s potato salad, Aunt Nell’s Christmas
                       butter cookies.
